2. Names of places

• Uncountable nouns (water, wine, sand)
• Island (Bermuda, Sicily, etc)
• Cities (New York, Rome, etc.)
• Mountains/Lakes (Everest, Lake of Garda, etc)

"The United Kingdom", "The United States of America": the article is used because there is a political meaning.
